Patience Needed ...

Getting a child to do something he/she doesnt want to do is insane sometimes.... Simply writting a report becomes a war.... I am fed up! Sometimes one has to ask themselves should I just let the child fail ?? Or should I keep up the good fight and take a Tylenol?? Any good advice is VERY welcome...Because this is crazy ~ NOW it's a can't write in cursive.... ugh! Good Night.

Dawn,

I think Daniel and I have had that same battle once or twice. lol I always end up just taking the Tylenol and pushing forward. (probably because I have to prove I am more stubborn than he is.) I know we should probably get on their level and try to think outside the box to make it more fun than a chore but there usually does not seem to be time to take that approach. Which is ironic because this way we end up using just as much time and getting frustrated to boot. Hang in there and just know that all across the world moms are in the same fight.;)

THANKS VIV :) I just get soo frusterated when life gets harder than it has to!!! ESP. when there's enough going on already. Sometimes I wonder if after 3hrs of pushing+encouraging should a parent back off and let natural consequences take over like minus a grade for not finishing on time? I dont want to be an enabler ... Its easier to fail a project (or low grade) in elementary than it will be in middle or highschool... I dont want him to expect Mommie N Daddy will always pick up the pieces so he doesnt learn to be responsible.. It's a tough call....

The best parenting advice I ever read was in a book called The Explosive Child by Dr. Ross Green.

paraphrasing here, but

"It never gets you very far to match a child's inflexibility with your own."

Sometimes I'm just too darned tired to be super mommy though!
